After seeing how rapidly her online presence was growing, I helped Beth Doherty showcase her content in the form of a media showcase website. Here, she could collate her freelance journalism, blog posts, and podcast episodes all in one place and all under her brand name: Beth Doherty Media.
Despite not having built the entire website for this project, I handled the long list of pre-requisites. This included starting with setting up a local XAMPP web server. I contributed to the base theme, as well as configuring the hosted Plesk server.
Additionally, I was responsible for moving the final build of the website to the live domain. Following this, I taught Beth how to use WordPress to make pages and posts, this included how to generally manage her own WordPress installation.
Beth Doherty Development Process
Initially, the development plan for this website was to generate a layout and build from the ground up. Together we created ideas for the menu tree, pages, content layout, font and colour selection and more.
After this was completed, I handed the core part of the building process over to Beth. With her in control, she could start migrating her posts from Contently into WordPress. These pages would eventually redirect to the website holding the live article. For this, I used the Redirection plugin. Using the redirection plugin, I redirected dummy posts on the website to the website holding Beth’s articles. This meant her work would be showcased all in one place. In turn, these dummy posts redirected to the live work for the different brands she has worked for.
Website Build Summary
Despite not having a great deal of creative input on the website, when it came to content injection, this brief step into WordPress to help a good friend make a platform for herself was a pleasure to do. The final build of the website turned out beautifully! Beth did a great job making a stunning website, despite her limited knowledge of WordPress prior to the project. In conclusion, Beth Doherty Media was a very exciting project to work on!
